As co-enzymes, the B vitamins are crucial components in our body’s metabolism. Vitamin B12 and folate are essential vitamins which are coenzymes in the DNA and RNA metabolism. It’s involved in the process where parts of our DNA gets copied to be used in the body.

Folic acid however is the synthetic form of folate, and isn’t immediately usable by our body. It needs to be converted in our body several times before it can be utilized. It’s often the form of folate in dietary supplements in the market, but it’s hardly the best in usability.

The patented Metafolin® can be used by our body right away without any extra work. It is a natural form of 5-MTHF: the bioactive, most common form of folate in cells. This makes Metafolin® B-Complex especially great for people who are genetically unable to break down folic acid. Metafolin® is also the only form of folate to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Metafolin® B-Complex also contains vitamin B12 in the form of methylcobalamin, and intrinsic factor to help its absorption. Methylcobalamin is a coenzyme form of vitamin B12, and is easier for the body to keep and use, according to studies.

Intrinsic factor is a protein that the intestines need to absorb vitamin B12 effectively. Our body makes it in our stomach lining, but can be difficult to produce with age or health conditions. Without enough intrinsic factor, vitamin B12 deficiency can occur. Combining methylcobalamin with intrinsic factor ensures that we get a good supply of B12, and are also able to take it all in.

Thiamin is necessary for glycolytic and Krebs cycle reactions, and is also related to nerve impulse transmission. Riboflavin is a component of various coenzymes that are used in energy production as well as cellular respiration. Niacin is also a component of enzymes, and is involved in energy production and biosynthetic processes.

Vitamin B6, which is a coenzyme as well, is utilized in amino acid metabolism. It is used for converting tryptophan into niacin, and is also involved in making neurotransmitters, including serotonin, epinephrine, and norepinephrine.
